Overton hotel to be taken private label
It was a shining moment for McDougal Cos. when the privately held family company was finally able to announce plans for a new upscale, multi-story hotel for Overton Park. That was in January.

A lot has happened since then.


McDougals loom large in Overton Park
Lubbock developer Delbert McDougal and his wife, Carolyn, never looked better - in bronze that is.

On Monday, the McDougals were honored by City Bank which unveiled a 7-foot likeness of the couple strolling into Overton Park - the largest privately funded redevelopment project in the nation, which the family-owned company has been working on since July 1999. March 6, 2006


Upscale hotel will be towering presence in Overton Park
Overton Park took another huge step forward Thursday following the announcement that the largest privately funded revitalization area will soon be home to the city's first upscale high-rise hotel.

Dallas-based Garfield Traub Development and Gal-Tex Hotel Corp. of Galveston said they intend to build and operate a 275-room full-service luxury hotel at the northeast corner of Sixth Street and Avenue X. January 27, 2006


Former Pioneer Hotel ready to step into modern age
From a rooftop cabana area with connecting decks to a ground floor courtyard splashed in green, the former Pioneer Retirement Hotel in downtown Lubbock will look anything but its age when a major renovation is complete.

McDougal Cos., which will share what it has in store for the 89-year-old building in a presentation Tuesday to its realty staff, said it's ready to move into the construction phase of the project. December 17, 2005

McDougal takes giant step to north
McDougal Cos. said it is acquiring more than 727 acres in Northwest Lubbock for residential development and announced it has engaged D.R. Horton Inc., the nation's largest single-family home builder.

McDougal, a diversified land, building and realty company, said it is in contract with George Hardberger to acquire the huge swath that sits adjacent to its North Pointe subdivision.December 8, 2005
